CHARLENE Awarded Membership in the Shanghai Diamond Exchange, Continues to Expand Diamond Business

In March 2022, the Oriental high jewellery brand CHARLENE made another big move. Following the official approval of membership in the Shanghai Diamond Exchange in March, the group's diamond wholesale subsidiary, "CHARLENE Diamonds", is about to commence operations in the Diamond Exchange. Relying on the Shanghai Diamond Exchange, Charlene will formally enter the diamond import and export wholesale business field, integrating resources from a wide range of international suppliers, selecting high-quality diamond raw materials, and continually assisting the development of the group's diamond inlay product line.

The Shanghai Diamond Exchange, approved by the State Council and established in 2000, is a national-level market and the only diamond import and export trading platform in mainland China. As a member of the World Federation of Diamond Exchanges (WFDB), it operates according to internationally accepted diamond trading rules, providing domestic and foreign diamond traders with a fair, just, and secure trading venue under closed management. The Shanghai Diamond Exchange adopts a membership system, and only official members are qualified to conduct transactions in the exchange, thus it has a high threshold.

Domestic demand for diamonds mainly comes from imports. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, global diamond prices have risen substantially in several rounds, and the difficulty of diamond transportation and import has increased. With the resurgence of domestic anti-inflation investment and marriage gift-giving, the demand for diamonds has increased, leading to a simultaneous rise in the quantity and price of the diamond market. Since February, geopolitical crises have led to supply disruptions from Russia, the world's largest producer of diamonds, which means that rough diamond prices still have room to rise substantially, inevitably leading to another increase in finished diamond prices.

Founded in 2013, CHARLENE is dedicated to spreading "Oriental Aesthetics in 1cm²" through jewellery, representing China's move towards the world. After 9 years of hard work, CHARLENE is renowned for being the first jewellery brand to have been invited to design a themed jewellery collection for the Forbidden City and to host an art exhibition at the Palace Museum. The collection was honored with the prestigious Milan Design Week Special Award in 2018, making it the first Chinese brand to receive such an accolade. It is believed that after obtaining membership in the Diamond Exchange, CHARLENE will reach new heights in terms of cost control, raw material quality, and product capabilities.
